Crime Runs Rampant at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana

Latest News From The University Crime Front

CHAMPAIGN -- Two men robbed and threatened to shoot two female University of Illinois students outside a Champaign tavern Tuesday night, a Champaign police report said.

The women told police they were walking to the Chester Street Bar, 63 Chester St., C, about 11 p.m. when they saw the men. One of the men ran in front of the women and the other remained behind them, the report said.

The one in front said, "Give me your wallets, or I'll shoot you," the report said. The man had his hand in his coat pocket, giving the women the impression he had a gun.

The two women threw their money and identification on the ground, and the man in front retrieved the money, estimated at $28, and then patted the pockets of the women.

The men fled toward Springfield Avenue.

One robber was described as a black male in his 20s, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 150 pounds, with a full beard and wearing a green wool coat.

The other was described as a black male in his 20s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 150 pounds, wearing a dark, navy blue coat.
